Dear festival visitors,

  You are invited to the Festival Brikcius - the 7th chamber music concert series in Prague (BACH333, #Czech100), that is held annually under the auspices of the Mayor of Prague 1, Oldřich Lomecký and organized as a part of international Daniel Pearl World Music Days.

  This year the festival commemorates the 333rd anniversary of the birth of Johann Sebastian Bach, the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia, charity concert dedicated to the Médecins Sans Frontičres and the 20th Festival Poetry Day (the 208th anniversary of the birth of poet Karel Hynek Mácha).

  The 6th annual festival will feature Czech cellist František Brikcius, Czech cellist Anna Brikciusová and siblings cello chamber ensemble Duo Brikcius. For further information, visit http://Festival.Brikcius.com .



  Concerts are held on 14th - 16th November 2018 in Prague (the Baroque chapel of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Praga, the Military Church of St. Jan Nepomucký and the New Mill Water Tower). Free entry.

   Festival features cello recital charity concert < 1918 > for Lékaři bez hranic | Médecins Sans Frontičres (Wednesday 14th November), cello concert DUO BRIKCIUS & #CZECH100 (Thursday 15th November) and poetry reading POETRY DAY & DO BOUŘE (Friday 16th November).

- Opening charity concert < 1918 > for Lékaři bez hranic | Médecins Sans Frontičres will take place on Wednesday 14th November 2018 at 7 p.m., at the Baroque Chapel of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Praga (Vlašská 34, Praha 1). Czech cellist František Brikcius will perform 7 Ricercari per violoncello solo (1689) by Italian baroque composer Domenico Gabrielli (1659 - 1690), Suite No. 3 in C major for Solo Cello, BWV 1009 by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 - 1750), Z domoviny / From my homeland by Bedřich Smetana (1824 - 1884), Aká si mi krásna ... by Slovak composer b (1908 - 1993), Poem by Czech composer Zdeněk Fibich (1850 - 1900) and Veselka for Solo Cello by Czech composer and organist Irena Kosíková. * (Czech premiere, arranged for Solo Cello by František Brikcius), ** (Czech premiere). This event is celebrating the 333rd anniversary of the birth of Johann Sebastian Bach, the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia, in the cooperation and under the auspices of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Praga. Free entry; all voluntary donations collected at the event will go to charitable purposes of the Lékaři bez hranic | Médecins Sans Frontičres.

- Cello concert DUO BRIKCIUS & #CZECH100 will take place on Thursday 15th November 2018 at 7 p.m., at the Military Church of St. Jan Nepomucký (Kanovnická 5/72, Praha 1 - Hradčany). The two cellists, brother and sister Anna Brikciusová and František Brikcius (Duo Brikcius), will introduce a programme for two cellos featuring Concerto by French composer François Couperin (1668 - 1733), Composition for two cellos by Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů (1890 - 1959), Duo by "Terezín" Jewish composer Gideon Klein (1919 - 1945), written shortly before World War II. The Duo and other pieces by Gideon Klein were promoted and revised by composer Vojtěch Saudek (1951 - 2003), grandnephew of Franz Kafka. Then Duo pour 2 violoncelles, op. 53 n°1 by French composer of German origin Jacques Offenbach (1819 - 1880) and Bridges for two cellos by Czech composer and organist Irena Kosíková, who lives in France. The music is dedicated to Swiss bridge builder Toni Rüttimann. As a special encore Duo Brikcius will play the Presto by Czech composer Leoš Janáček (1854 - 1928). In the cooperation with the Chaplaincy of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic. Free entry.

- Poetry reading POETRY DAY & DO BOUŘE from Anna Brikciusová's new poetry collection, with accompanying cello music by the author, is scheduled for Friday 16th November 2018 at 6 p.m., at the New Mill Water Tower (Nové mlýny 827/3A, Praha 1), as part of the 20th Festival Poetry Day and the 208th anniversary of the birth of poet Karel Hynek Mácha (1810 - 1836). This event will feature Suite No. 2 in D minor for Solo Cello (BWV 1008) by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 - 1750) and composition La nuit est tombée pour violoncelle seul by Czech composer and organist Irena Kosíková. In the cooperation with the City of Prague Museum and the Festival Poetry Day. Free entry.

  Like previous projects (e.g. "eSACHERe", "MAKANNA", "Duo Brikcius - 2 Cellos Tour", "Weinberger Tour", "Festival Brikcius", ...), Festival Brikcius forms part of the Daniel Pearl World Music Days, which commemorate the legacy of Jewish journalist, musician Daniel Pearl, brutally murdered by group of terrorists for defending freedom of speech.
